Jasmine Zhang

About

Jasmine Zhang is an interdisciplinary artist located in Oakland, California. Having a fondness for history, Zhang works through collective human traumas and karmas. Using installation, sculptures, performance, and sounds, their work questions human beings's footsteps in postmodernity in terms of individuality and technology. Their work forfeits and/or relinquishes the self that they see art as an opportunity for new exploration towards the idea of self under different accidental conditions. Zhang graduated from their MFA program from San Francisco Art Institute in 2020. They have exhibited and performed in venues such as Minnesota Street Project, The Lab, Di Rosa Art Center and so on. Currently, Zhang serves as an adjunct faculty at California College of the Arts. Zhang is a Mahayana Buddhist practitioner.

Because it's a pig, performance, 2024

I interact with my confidants, audiences, friends, people around me, asking for one dollar of donation to their piggy bank that they carry constantly. After their monthly rent is accumulated, I will paste and line up the dollar bills on the ceiling of my 12 ft west oakland factory converted loft.
